Hi there! I’m Rory Woods, a writer, storyteller, and lover of all things fantasy. If you’ve found your way here, chances are you’re just as passionate about adventure, magic, and the power of a good story as I am.
I’ve been telling stories for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was always dreaming up characters, scribbling in notebooks, and getting lost in books that made the world feel a little more magical. Writing was never just a hobby for me—it was a lifeline, an escape, and, most of all, a way to make sense of the world.
Now, I’m finally bringing those stories to life in a way I never imagined. My debut novel, More Than Me, is a book that has lived in my head for years, waiting for the right moment to be told. It’s a story about self-worth, destiny, and found family—about realizing that who you are and the choices you make determine your worth, not anyone else’s opinion of you.
How I Fell in Love with Stories
My love of fantasy started with books like The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini (who remains one of my biggest inspirations to this day), The Wild Magic series by Tamora Pierce, and The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I’ve always been drawn to stories of dragons, magic, and complicated characters—especially ones where people find strength in themselves when the world tells them they shouldn’t.
When I wasn’t reading, I was playing video games and tabletop RPGs. Dungeons & Dragons has had a massive influence on my storytelling, and in fact, More Than Me actually started as a D&D character before growing into something much bigger. I love that roleplaying games give you a chance to step into a story and shape it as you go, and that’s exactly what I aim to do when I write—I want every page to feel like you’re stepping into an adventure of your own.
What Writing Means to Me
Writing has never been easy for me, but it’s always been worth it. As someone with ADHD and on the autism spectrum, sitting down and focusing can be one of the hardest things I do—but my brain is always full of stories, worlds, and characters that demand to be told. Writing is an act of defiance, a refusal to let the chaos win.
It’s also about connection. One of my favorite things about storytelling is the way it brings people together. Whether it’s discussing characters like they’re real people, getting lost in lore, or trading book recommendations, stories build communities, friendships, and shared experiences that mean more than words ever could.
That’s what I want to do with my stories—to create worlds where people see themselves, where they find hope, where they know they are enough.
A Few Fun Facts About Me
📖 First book that made me want to be a writer: The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.🎮 Favorite hobbies outside of writing: Video games, Dungeons & Dragons, reading, and yoga.
📚 Most-read authors: Christopher Paolini, Holly Black, Tamora Pierce.
🌍 If I could live in any fantasy world: I’d 100% be a hobbit in Middle-earth—simple life, good food, second breakfast. Enough said.
🖋 How I write: In quick bursts of inspiration rather than long sessions. I always have a fantasy playlist in the background, and sometimes, I argue with my characters (because they don’t always do what I want them to).
